Non-profit Development Intern

About this Job

Center Stage Studios, a performing arts non-profit organisation, is seeking a Development Intern for the Fall and/or Winter (September – December and/or January – May). The Development Intern(s) will work closely with the Executive Director to plan and execute new programming for the studio, including, but not limited to: a new works festival, a scholarship competition, and regional college audition workshops. CSS seeks to fulfill 15-20 intern hours per week, which could be completed by one or more persons depending upon individual availability. While internship is unpaid, if programming execution is successfully completed, there is the opportunity to receive a stipend for work.

Brief overview of Center Stage Studios: CSS was founded in 2010 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In 2015, we made the decision to expand and currently operate under three separate umbrella entities: (1) Arts Detroit: a performing arts studio specializing in vocal, piano, and acting education; (2) Outvisible Theatre Company: a professional theatre company operating out of a small, movable black box space and primarily focusing on minimalistic, creative storytelling; and (3) The MT Project: a mentoring project for high school students wishing to pursue theatre or musical theatre at the collegiate level, providing educational resources and coaching for the audition process.

Candidate qualifications: 

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of non-profit and/or business development, marketing, fundraising
  • Ability to work in collaborative manner
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, multitask, manage time, meet deadlines, and be willing to take initiative to ensure a project succeeds is necessary
  • Must be able to have discretion and maintain confidentiality throughout their work
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and GoogleDocs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multiple communities and in diverse settings
  • A positive attitude and appreciation of the arts
  • Commitment to Center Stage Studios purpose of organisation

Primary job duties

  • Conducting research on funding possibilities for programs and initiatives through individual, corporate, government agencies, or foundations
  • Contributing to source identification, feasibility analysis, and the proposal drafting process
  • Assisting with development of program specific grant proposals and potentially performing grant writing and management
  • Working with Executive Director, assisting with fundraising, producing events, analyzing strategic plans
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of fundraising events
  • Using communication tools such as newsletters, emails, and presentations
  • Assisting with capital campaigns
  • Assisting with community outreach, including building relationships with professionals, updating the client information and referral database, and presentations within the community
  • Other responsibilities relating to public relations, programming development, and business development as necessary

Non-profit Social Media & Marketing Intern

  • Must be able to have discretion and maintain confidentiality throughout their work
  • Proficiency with web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, WordPress preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multiple communities and in diverse settings
  • A positive attitude and appreciation of the arts

Primary job duties

  • Executing daily tasks in multiple digital marketing channels including SEO, email, content marketing, social media, and more
  • Present marketing solutions and create monthly KPI reporting and marketing analytics
  • Assist with management of multiple social media channels and online branding initiatives
  • Propose adjustments to current strategies as well as new marketing campaign ideas
  • Maintain social media marketing calendar and generate ideas for unique content for tweets, blog posts and other content
  • Transfer digital marketing strategies to print and in-person solutions
  • Aid in obtaining advertising and sponsorship for events and more
